Conference Supremacy

January 7th, 2008 by Tommy

Can we finally give up this ridiculous argument that the Big Ten (or any other conference) is better than the SEC?

With about a minute left, it looks like my boys from LSU are putting the wraps on a fairly thorough whipping of “the” Ohio State University…

I’m a bit embarassed to say this, but this is a bittersweet moment.  Yes, my team is on the verge of winning their 2nd national title in 4 years, but this also means that there is less than a minute of college football left in this season.

sniffle, sniffle, wipe — I’ll cry about that tomorrow.

I’ve got to go celebrate! 38-24 LSU!

And By the Way…

December 3rd, 2007 by Tommy

I’ve developed some friendships since moving to Pittsburgh with a lot of folks from just south in West Virginia.  And I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those WVU Mountaineer fans for completely choking Saturday night!

Because of your sincere concern and Pitt’s best efforts, my LSU Tigers will once again play for the National Championship this January!  Geaux Tigers!

Thanksgiving Trip Report

November 27th, 2007 by Tommy

Well, Amber, TJ and I went to Chicago for turkey day to spend some time with her mom and brother.  It was a good time.  We headed out Wednesday morning and came home Saturday evening.

Chicago is an interesting city.  It was – go figure – windy while we were there and a little chilly.  We spent a lot of time hanging out in the hotel and then driving around.  It was good to relax a little bit, even if part of that relaxing was watching my LSU Tigers lose their shot at a national championship in 3 OT’s to Arkansas.  Arkansas!  What is this world coming to….

Made it home uneventfully Saturday evening about 5 pounds heavier (thank you Chicago deep dish pizza!) and a little bit more relaxed.  Good trip.

Mixed Emotions

October 22nd, 2007 by Tommy

I’m torn (like an old sweater).

Torn because I want to be happy — LSU won on a last second (literally) touchdown pass over Auburn last night.

But I can’t help but be a little unhappy — the Steelers lost on a last second (literally) field goal to the Broncos tonight.

Game Speed

September 12th, 2007 by Tommy

A lot of my personality and work ethic was honed on the football field growing up.  It’s cool that God is letting us start Iron City Church on a similar timeline to the football season.

This summer we met once a month and worked on much of the preparation and legwork — learning the playbook, getting in shape, practicing, etc.   Now, just as fall is approaching we’re about to Kick-Off weekly services (less than 4 days now), just like the first game of the season.

One thing I remember most about the first game of the season is that no matter how much you had worked out, practiced, and scrimmaged, the speed of things is always faster in the game.  I can already feel the pace of things ramping up this week.  I always did better during the season because I like being a little overloaded and functioning at game speed.  That’s what this week has felt like so far and I’m loving it!

#2?

September 9th, 2007 by Tommy

I just got finished watching my favorite college football team — the LSU Tigers — put a first class whipping on the Virginia Tech Hokies.  I know, I know, I just have to wait, but I have to wonder if that #2 ranking is quite enough….

Geaux Tigers!
